There was a time when there were conventions held just for Star Trek fans every year at which Shatner would headline. Then they started to have regional conventions where attendees were happy if the only one to show was that guy who got killed in that episode of Star Trek: The Next generation.
But even after 50 years William Shatner is still the king of all Si Fi geeks and it is a coup for any such convention to get the 83 year old to attend.
Organizers expect over 50, 000 people to attend the convention which will be held from April 9th to the 11th at the Dubai World Trade Center.
Other celebrity guests will include Karl Urban, well known as Éomer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in Star Trek (2009), and Judge Dredd in Dredd (2012); along with another sci-fi legend, Sam Jones, best known for his iconic role as Flash Gordon, who made one of the most talked about cameo’s in recent years in the smash hit ‘Ted’.
MEFCC declared that it will continue to give fans from around the region the chance to celebrate a shared love of pop culture, meet international celebrities and artists, learn from industry professionals, express their own talent and enjoy a feast of activities ranging from gaming to music, art, technology and beyond.
