Lena Dunham Has The Nerve To Call Woody Allen A Perv At Sundance

Lena Dunham, creator of the popular HBO series Girls and recent author of a memoir Not that Kind of Girl on a Sundance panel called Woody Allen a “perv, ” expressed the importance of dealing with the problem of campus rape, with the shadow of accusations that she sexually abused her own sister, as she basically confessed (and joked about) in her memoir, apparently forgotten.

On a panel called “The Power of Story: Serious Ladies” Dunham was joined by Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, Kristen Wiig and Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan. Lena Dunham warned viewers not to take her Girls character Hannah Horvath too seriously as a font of wisdom, “People equate the words coming out of your character’s mouth with a real life philosophy that you don’t possess, ” she said, as reported by Deadline Hollywood, “I don’t think Larry David or Woody Allen or anyone else playing some version of themselves is walking around with a million people who think they know and understand them on a deep abiding level … Woody Allen is proof that people don’t think everything he says in his films is stuff he does because all he was doing was making out with 17 year olds for years, and we didn’t say anything about it.” This got a roar from the audience.

Dunham was referring to a relationship Woody Allen’s character has with a 17 year old in Manhattan, and perhaps referring to the fact he later married his young stepdaughter Sun Yi. However, 17 is the age of consent in many states, which makes one wonder why Dunham finds Manhattan so disturbing. What is disturbing are the allegations that he molested his stepdaughter Dylan while she was only 8 years old might be true, and should be taken seriously.

However, Dunham has her own skeletons in the closet, which have seemed to have gone “poof” like some forgotten bad dream. In her memoir, “Not that Kind of Girl, ” Dunham admits to, for no apparent reason, inspecting her one year old sister’s vagina. She writes her “curiosity got the best” of her. In addition, she admitted to bribing her little sister to kiss her on the mouth, “Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl, I was trying.”

Inexplicably, she reacted with shock and horror when people were offended by this. According to the Guardian, her outburst took the form of an incoherent “rage spiral” with passages like “Usually this is stuff I can ignore, but don’t demean sufferers, don’t twist my words, back the fuck up bros.” But how is quoting right from her memoirs twisting her words?

Yes, there is a difference between being a “weird seven year old, ” and Woody Allen as an adult allegedly molesting an eight year old. But then again, there is a big difference between a seven year old and a one year old, a 28 year old writing it and expecting it all to sound like just fine normal stuff, when she admitted to thinking like a predator (I suppose that was just to be LOL-worthy). Or maybe it is okay when this stuff is just between “girls.” Girls can’t do any harm, Right, Lena?
