The 1869 novel is about Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812.
Harvey Weinstein said, “I fell in love with Tolstoy’s War And Peace as a teenager when I read it for the first time. Putting an epic, iconic story like War And Peace on screen with a cast of this caliber is an incredible thrill. Lily, Paul, and James are all amazingly talented actors and it takes their level of talent to capture the scale of Tolstoy’s words. We are excited to get underway with Andrew Davies and the phenomenal team at BBC.”
Due to air sometime in 2015 and produced together with the BBC, the miniseries will be 12 hours long in 6 parts.
Paul Dano, 30, is best known for his roles as the teenage son in Little Miss Sunshine and the evil overseer in 12 Years a Slave. He also played somewhat of a bad guy in 2011’s Cowboys and Aliens with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. Dano will play one of the leads, Pierre Bezukhov.
Lily James is probably best known for her recurring role on Downton Abbey as the feisty cousin Lady Rose. The 25 year old was also in Wrath of the Titans and the hit British show Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She will also star in next year’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. James will play one of the leads, Natasha Rostova.
Possibly the most famous member of the cast, Stephen rea, will play
Prince Kuragin. Rea is best known for his roles in The Crying Game and Interview with a Vampire.
Finally 30 year old James Norton will play Prince Andrei Bolkonsky.
The screenplay is being adapted from the novel by Andrew Davies who is famous for having adapted the original British series House of Cards from the novel of the same name by Michael Dobbs.
