The Urban Dictionary makes the following connection between the delightful, often high-caloric desert and the genre of glamour photography and poster art made popular in wartime pin-ups of the 1940’s, often featuring modest poses by movie starlets displaying lots of leg but little explicit nudity. They argue the pictures were called that because of the resemblance of a stocking-clad female thigh to the layers of a cheesecake dessert. (Hence) any pictures, modeling, posing or shooting for glamour photography or soft core porn is cheesecake.
The male equivalent would be beefcake. Which isn’t really dessert…
10) Katie Couric
Soon to be 58, Katie proves that she’s still got it. The daughter of a Jewish mother who was raised a Presbyterian recently made the switch to internet news, taking over as the global anchor of Yahoo’s new news service.
9) Kat Dennings
The 28 year old actress, born Katherine Litwack, stars on the hit raunchy sitcom Two Broke Girls. She has also appeared in the two Thor movies and recently made a guest appearance on the final season of HBO’s The Newsroom.
Most recently she has been dating the singer/musician Josh Groban.
8) Moran Atias
The 33 year old Israeli actress and model can currently be seen on the basic cable show Tyrant, about a fictional dictator of an Arab country. She plays the dictator’s wife and the show, which aired last summer, was renewed for a second season.
Atias has already appeared in a number of Hollywood movies and hopes to become the first truly Israeli movie star. (Natalie Portman may have been born in Jerusalem, but she grew up in America.)
7) Laurie Kohan
The 32 British actress who was originally born in Philadelphia is definitely the woman who we would most like to survive the zombie apocalypse with. She currently stars on America’s #1 show The Walking Dead.
Kohan was not born Jewish, but her mother’s second husband is Jewish and named Cohan. She converted after her mother remarried, took her stepfather’s last name and had a bat Mitzvah.
6) Patricia Arquette
The 44 year old sister of Roseanna and David, whose mother was Jewish, is having a great year. She not only appeared on the final season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, but she also stars in this year’s most critically acclaimed movie “Boyhood.”
The film has already won all sorts of awards and been nominated for awards to be presented next year. Arquette, who plays the mother in it, has already won the best actress award from the New York Film Critics Circle and has just been named best supporting actress by both the San Francisco Film Critics and the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association and been nominated for a Golden Globe.
She’s a shoe in for an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress.
5) Mila Kunis
The 31 year old who was born to a Jewish family in Ukraine did not star in any movies this year, but she did give birth to a baby girl. She also bought a new home together with her fiancé Ashton Kutcher.
The actress who has topped several sexiest woman alive lists is in our “break Jewish men’s hearts” club as she is marrying a non-Jew.
4) Scarlett Johansson
Do we really need to explain why she made our list? This blonde bombshell had two different box office hits this year. The first was the Captain America sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in which she played sexy assassin Natasha Romanoff. The other, Lucy, also made a fortune. In it she played a woman who develops super human powers after an overdose of some sort of new designer drug.
Johansson also made headlines by both giving birth and getting married this year. She was the envy of women everywhere as she was seen in perfect shape a mere weeks after having a baby.
The now 30 year old also joined our “break Jewish men’s hearts” club as she married a non-Jew for the second time.
3) Eva Green
The 34 year old daughter of a Sephardic Jewish mother from Algeria made her mark 8 years ago as the first Bond Girl in the Daniel Craig era. She has also been known to go nude in hot, steamy sex scenes in just about all of her films including The Dreamers (2003), Perfect Sense (2011) and this year’s 300 Rise of an Empire. She also took her clothes off in a number of episodes of the cable TV miniseries Camelot.
This year she starred in the new original Showtime horror drama set in late 18th Century England called Penny Dreadful.
What else can we say about a woman who made James Bond fall in love with her?
2) Lizzy Kaplan
This is another Jewish actress who is known for taking her clothes off. She does so in just about every episode of her popular and critically acclaimed TV show, Showtime’s Masters of Sex. The program is about the real life story of 1950s sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson.
The 32 year old actress has come a long way since appearing in Jud Apatow’s TV series Freaks and Geeks when she was still only 18. A few years later she played a cynical teenage lesbian in Tina Fey’s hit comedy Mean Girls.
Today she can be seen as a sexy CIA agent who flirts with James Franco to convince him to agree to assassinate Kim Jung Um in The Interview.
1) Sarah Silverman
We know that most of you expected us to choose either Mila Kunis or Scarlett Johansson for our number one. But for us this one was a no brainer.
At 44 Sarah Silverman just keeps on getting better and better. There is something to be said about the combination of sexiness and comedy and Silverman certainly excels at both. If you don’t believe us then you must have missed her triumphant return to Saturday Night Live in November. Her turn as host included an impression of the late great Joan Rivers.
Silverman visited Israel this month for her nephew’s bar mitzvah where she lit a Menorah for the third night of Hanukkah at the Western Wall. The comedian also received an achievement award from the Jerusalem Film Festival.
