Sarah Silverman will be returning to television with a new show for HBO. In the new comedy Silverman will play a pathologically honest woman who has a modern midlife crisis. The news comes as the comic makes a visit to Israel.
The show, which has no name yet, will star and be exec-produced by Silverman. It will be written by Secret Diary of a Call Girl’s Lucy Prebble who will also executive produce the show. Silverman’s manager Amy Zvi will also serve as an executive producer.

Meanwhile, while making a trip to the Holyland, Silverman lit a Menorah for the third night of Hanukkah at the Western Wall last night. The lighting was part of a special ceremony held by Women at the Wall which fights for the equal inclusion of women at Judaism’s holiest site. Silverman’s sister, Rabbi Susan Silverman, who lives in Jerusalem is active in the organization.
The event was held in part to protest the policy of the official Rabbi of the Western Wall who has refused to allow women to place a menorah in the women’s section there. Anat Hoffman, the leader of the Women at the Wall, was quoted as saying about Silverman’s attendance that she, “joined us when I explained the absurdity of the rabbis’ position.”
Sarah Silverman came to Israel for her nephew’s Bar Mitzva and to accept an achievement award from the Jerusalem Film Festival which was presented to her Thursday night. There she sat down for an interview with Israeli comedic actress and TV host Einav Galili.
The comedian talked about her earlier experience at the Kotel saying, “I went to the Kotel with Women of the Wall today and we lit candles and sang Hanukkah songs. I can’t believe that’s a big deal.”
She added, “It’s like, fuck you! You’re perverts and so we have to wear unflattering length skirts?!”
