Sheldon Adelson’s attempt to attach a ban on online gambling to legislation in the current session of Congress has probably failed, Poker News reports.
Despite the lavish investments the Sands’ owner has made in Republican campaigns, this Tuesday, the Republican-led House omnibus spending bill did not include the Restoration of the American Wire Act, which adds to the existing Wire Act every imaginable Internet gambling, besides the already banned sports betting.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat from the great state of Nevada, suggested the gambling ban was not going to happen during the lame duck session.
“We have breathed a real sigh of relief that we were able to successfully keep it out of the omnibus despite a very concerted effort by Adelson to include it, ” John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, told Poker News.
Back in November, Republican Congressman Ron Paul, whose son, Senator Rand Paul, will likely seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, blasted Adelson for “cronyism” in trying to push for a bill that would outlaw online gambling. Paul wrote an op-ed piece printed in the Eurasia Review, accusing Adelson of pushing his interests with a heavy hand.
He wrote, “Mr. Adelson, who is perhaps best known for using his enormous wealth to advance a pro-war foreign policy, is not using his political influence to turn his online competitors into criminals.”
