UK Religious Schools ‘Indoctrinating’ Children against Homosexuality Face Closing

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan

UK schools that are found to be ‘indoctrinating pupils about gay people’ will face closing under new rules designed to promote ‘British values, ’ the British Government confirmed Monday, according to the Daily Mail.

But the Department for Education said it was “nonsense” to suggest teachers in these schools would be forced to give lessons on gay rights.

That brought a response from Labor’s shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt, who said that Education Secretary Nicky Morgan “clearly does not believe that LGBT rights are British values.”

Hunt added: “Compulsory sex and relationship education, including LGBT rights, in all schools is common sense, not nonsense. Nicky Morgan should apologize for the offence that has been caused by claiming that it is nonsense for all schools to teach gay rights.”

There you go. So, presumably, under a Labor government (with a Jewish prime minister, no less), Ultra Orthodox schools would have to teach the value of homosexual marriage, or else…

Oy vey…

A spokesman for the Department for Education insisted that Ofsted, the official body for inspecting schools, was right to make sure religious schools were not promoting homophobia.

There goes a whole portion of Leviticus down the drain…

The spokesman said: “Ofsted are rightly ensuring that schools do not indoctrinate pupils about gay people – or any other people – being inferior.

“The same goes for schools that do things like make girls sit separately at the back of the class. Both are practices which go directly against the fundamental British values of tolerance and respect.

“We believe schools should prepare all pupils for life in modern Britain. A broad and balanced curriculum is vital for this.”

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan told the Sunday Times that schools must teach “pupils to respect other people even if they do not agree with them.”

Which makes perfect sense, as Morgan put it: “I should have thought this is a principle with which the vast majority of people would agree.”

See? Education turns out to be democracy after all…

Here comes the less fun part: according to the Mail, schools have been warned that those that fail to follow new rules on “British values” (that’s LGBT to you and me) will be judged inadequate and could face closure by Ofsted inspectors.

The decision, which makes it practically illegal to teach some aspects of Jewish Studies, follows snap inspections by Ofsted at 40 schools, including Christian and Jewish institutions.

The new rules give inspectors the power to downgrade schools where teachers are breaching the Equality Act, which encourages respect for lesbian, gay and transgender people as well as those of other religions and races.

It’s sickening to read the author of this article contribute to the discrimination of gay people with her words, “Oy ve – there goes a whole portion of Leviticus down the drain”.

Let’s take a practical look for a moment at this problem of gays and a church: Back in biblical days, people lived in caves and ate rats for dinner. They didn’t know the earth was round. How much do we think they knew about human sexuality?
The scriptures were written by heterosexual men – not Jesus, not women, not gay men – but mere mortal heterosexual males who probably had the same fears as anyone else in this modern age who doesn’t like people who are different than they are. Nature puts gay people on this planet. There will always be gay babies – maybe to cut down on over-population, maybe to cut down on the aggression of heterosexual males that lead us into wars every twenty years, etc. Edit out or ignore the anti-gay prejudice in the bible and Christianity’s problem with the issue will disappear.
Which brings me to my own personal theory: people who don’t ignore the anti-gay prejudice in the bible, don’t like gay people. I’m a Christian and I have never paid attention to it.
When asked about gays, gay marriage and the Baptist Church, Rev. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary recently said that “we would indeed have to overturn two thousand years of the church’s teaching on sex and marriage and apologize for the horrible embarrassment of being wrong for so long.”
The smart move would be to admit to that mistake. Modern science is coming closer and closer to proving that homosexuality has a genetic component. Wouldn’t it be wiser for a church to admit it’s mistake now, with dignity, rather than later…when it is forced to?

The Torah has nothing against Gay people.  That false belief is based on ignorance, and Orthodox rabbis tend to be profoundly ignorant about Gays.  Of course, ignorance and bigotry are siblings.
While no one can be certain exactly what Leviticus originally meant, it certainly was not anti-Gay, any more than separating meat and milk is a condemnation of either meat or milk.  At the most, it is a regulation, and it is not even clear if the focus is on male to male sex or on effeminacy.   The regulation of how men would have sexual encounter may have originally been a subset of rules against effeminacy and weakness. If the origin were that ancient, it could be between 4,000 and 6,000 years old and has clung on to the modern world due to the date at which the books were canonized.
In the ancient world, male to male sex was required of the most virtuous male leaders, e.g. Gilgamesh, Jacob whose name was changed to “Isra-el,” and later Alexander The Great.  Julius Caesar, however, was ridiculed for being a “bottom.”  The point was no that male to male sex was disfavored but that being in the bottom position raised fears of woman-like, i.e., weak, behavior.

It is interesting how disfavored comments magically disappear — right in front of one’s eyes.  Are we to believe G-d did it or someone who cannot deal with any ideas which differ from their own?

Scott Zwartz Maybe the powers that be don’t like bigotry?
