Houzz Founders Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen Newest Tech Power Couple

Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen

Forbes has declared Houzz’s founders Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen to be the high tech world’s “newest power couple.”

The married Tatarko and Cohen are both Israeli born entrepreneurs who relocated to California. After a recent investment of $165 million, Houzz was left with a $2 billion valuation. With a combined 1/3 share in it, that leaves Adi and her husband Alon with a personal value of well over $500 million, on paper anyway.

As many Israeli youths do after completing their mandatory army service, Tatarko and Cohen both went on a journey to Thailand. It was there that the couple first met while on a sixteen hour bus journey across the country.

“We talked nonstop for the whole bus ride, ” Tatarko told Forbes. “It was like four dates, one after another. It was wonderful.”

Houzz.com is a platform for home remodeling and design. Founded in 2009, the company declares that it provides people with everything they need to improve their homes from start to finish – online or from a mobile device. It asserts that it connects millions of homeowners, home design enthusiasts and home improvement professionals across the country and around the world. And that it has the largest residential design database in the world and a vibrant community powered by social tools.

The couple got the idea for Houzz when trying to remodel their own home. The Houzz CEO recently said of her company “Since day one, we have been focused on creating the single best home renovation and design experience by bringing everything people need to improve their homes together under one roof.”

“This focus has enabled us to grow organically to over 25 million monthly unique users around the world. We now have a tremendous opportunity to meet the enormous demand for our platform and make Houzz synonymous with the home on a global scale.”

“We’re not typical founders. We’re simple people. We don’t come from privileged backgrounds, ” Tatarko said of herself and her husband.

About her Forbes said, “In Silicon Valley’s bro-coder culture, it’s rare to find a female executive at the top.” Meaning that considering the success that she has steered Houzz to, Tatarko must be really good at her job.
