Mizrahi told the magazine that his mother once told him, “if you want to stay young, live in the Village!”

His apartment holds more than 4, 000 square feet in a building located off of Sixth Ave that was built in 1931. Mizrahi made the apartment himself by combining three separate units – a studio, a one bedroom and a two bedroom — over the last twenty years. David Bers Architecture handled the redesign of the combined apartments.

The 52 year old fashion designer explained why his home has a subdued flavor as opposed to the flashy style that most people expect of him. “I work with color and pattern all day long, but there’s a reserve to my personal taste. To me the essence of style, at least in terms of the apartment, is a gradual refining process. On the other hand I tell people all the time, ‘Buy what you like, trust your instinct, your impulse!’”

The furnishings include an antique French armchair upholstered in a linen from his collection for S. Harris, a 19th century pedestal table from O’Sullivan Antiques, two Ole Wanscher armchairs from Karl Kemp Antiques, and a rug by Fort Street Studio.

His kitchen features cabinetry by Bers, stools by Makr and a set of 18th century Swedish chairs from Laurin Copen Antiques. The master bedroom has a bright Benjamin Butler painting, a 19th-century French work displayed over the bed, and nightstands designed by David Bers. Its drapes are of a Mizrahi design.

The bathroom is coated in marble paneling, including around a Khohler tub. It also has an uncovered old style free standing radiator.

The den has a painting by Tomory Dodge.

Mizrahi shares the home with his partner Arnold Germer.
