‘Dr. Doom’ Peter Schiff Goes Off the Air

peter-schiff

Economic Armageddon is going to have to happen (if it does) without Peter Schiff’s radio commentary. Dr. Doom himself announced that August is the final month for his “Peter Schiff Show.” The economist was given the nickname “Dr. Doom” after two accurate predictions, namely of the housing crisis in 2008 and the global financial crisis in 2010, led to consistent prophecies of economic doom and gloom that have not seemed to let up, but have given him a large following, a role as economic advisor in the Ron Paul campaign, and more than a few appearances on Fox News.

On his radio show, Peter Schiff combines political commentary with his broader economic view characterized by bearishness on the U.S. economy in general and the dollar in particular and bullishness on precious metals, particularly gold, and foreign currency. His predictions of economic collapse are consistent, and he has his critics, including Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman, who said, “I’ve been told Peter Schiff is always right. Well, how is that hyperinflation going?”

Fans are mourning the announcement, with one devoted listener saying that “American just wasn’t ready for his show, ” which was always characterized by Schiff’s “Non-stop advocacy for liberty and transparency.”  There is little doubt that Schiff will deliver podcasts instead and put out video blogs.

“What’s worse in my opinion, ” laments one fan (apparently worse than not having a Peter Schiff show on the airwaves at all), “is that he won’t be on the air when this bubble finally bursts (the economy, I suppose), which I know would have been very satisfying for Peter and all his fans.”

There is nothing like sharing tender moments, whatever shape or form they take.
