The undoubted drawing power and chemistry of one of the UK’s most successful couples in the world of entertainment,  Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig played to packed houses during the entire  fourteen week run of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal.

Betrayal ran  at the 1096 seat Ethel Barrymore theater from 1 October until 5 January 2014, with box office receipts totaling $17.5 million for the length of the run, in the process setting  a new Broadway record by bringing in $1.44m in a single week making for  the highest-grossing non-musical in history.

Tickets for Betrayal, based around the true story of English playwright and Nobel Prize winner’s  extramarital affair with Joan Bakewell a well-known BBC television presenter during the late 1970s brought in top prices of between $275 and $499 consistently during its run.

Betrayal took the prize for being the second most successful Broadway show for 2013 behind Lucky Guy written by the late  Nora Ephron’s play with Tom Hanks taking the starring role.  Lucky Guy grossed  slightly less than $23 million, although it did run  for four weeks longer than Betrayal in a theatre with 160 more seating capacity.
