F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV ) today announced that it has agreed to acquire Versafe Ltd., an Israeli provider of web anti-fraud, anti-phishing, and anti-malware solutions. Versafe(TM) advanced web and mobile protection solutions combined with its Security Operations Center (“SOC”) will provide greater breadth to F5’s existing security solutions.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but Versafe plays in a similar space as Trusteer, which was recently acquired by IBM for about $1 billion. This space is certainly getting a lot of attention from large security players.

Versafe was founded in 2009 by Eyal Gruner, Boaz Zilber and Idan Amir. The company has 30 customers worldwide and raised $8 million earlier this year at a company value of $30 million.

This is F5’s fourth acquisition in Israel. Last year, F5 acquired load management solutions company Traffix Systems for $120 million, having previously bought MagniFire Websystems for $30 million and Crescendo Networks for $5.6 million.

“The acquisition supports F5’s vision and commitment to provide our customers with secure access to data and applications from any location; from any device, ” said Karl Triebes, EVP of Product Development and CTO at F5. “Web applications are under increasing attack, which can lead to the theft of intellectual property, money, sensitive data and identity. Versafe provides comprehensive, real-time detection and protection for every user, every device and every browser.”

Versafe technology offers a natural extension to F5 security, access, and mobile solutions. F5’s Application Delivery Firewall solution benefits from new fraud, phishing, and malware protection. F5’s Identity and Access Management solution gains the ability to protect access credentials from being stolen by malware on the user’s device. F5’s Mobile Application and Device Management solution benefits from the ability to better protect business-to-consumer applications. Versafe has been an F5 Technology Alliance Partner with integration through F5’s iRules(R) technology.
Versafe solution detects malware-born fraud and other client side online threats for mobile and web applications, with the ability to scale from mission-critical enterprise applications to the largest transactional sites on the web.

Versafe also operates an advanced remediation and advisory security service through its SOC. The SOC is set up to quickly identify new malware types and new attack vectors, and works with customers to address these issues and incidents in real-time. Versafe’s SOC has already proven its capabilities to be the first in the market to detect advanced financial malware and zero day web application vulnerabilities.

F5 Networks organizations meet the demands and embrace the opportunities that come with the relentless growth of voice, data, and video traffic, mobile workers, and applications–in the data center, the network, and the cloud.
