Find Exceptional Features

A big part of launching a wedding blog will be finding exceptional features. No matter how great your writing is, the ability to utilize the strength of other’s brand and network could provide a significant boost to your launch. Plus, this will also help you start to round out a list of partners if you were ever able to get into planning/consultation. However, part of that comes with designing a solid content calendar.

In drafting up your content plan, try to diversify your features into different categories, including things like venues and catering. Make your features things that could be used for recycled content in the future, highlighting a specific part of the industry that will remain constant. For example, according to The Knot, with the average wedding dress costing around $1564, this is one of the more expensive items on the bride’s shopping list. By showcasing some alternatives, you not only have a piece that can gain traction with your audience but can also be used again-and-again. Your features are going to be the main avenue to your niche, so take your time in discovering what can take you to the next level and set you apart.

Get Social With Your Audience

No matter the industry, any blogger will tell you that to succeed, you have to stay active on social media, which especially rings true for the wedding industry. In fact, according to AdWeek, 60 percent of brides announce their engagement on social media within the first 24 hours, which goes to show how tied getting married and social has become. And beyond this just being a place to announce getting married, social is a big place of research for couples, which is an area where you could capitalize.

If you haven’t already, start checking out the primary channels that the wedding industry primarily uses. This primarily includes a lot of visual platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. Try to set a calendar of posts that not only coordinate with your current blog posts but also feature different varieties of people and places you work with. The biggest goal is consistency, which you’ll eventually become used to once you get into the flow of things.

Don’t Forget About Mobile

Although the majority of blog hosting services are responsive, that doesn’t necessarily mean all the content you’re producing is. While it might sound like a pain, unfortunately, a lot of blogging now needs to be written for mobile, which means things like improved visuals and easily digestible sub-sections. According to WeddingWire, 42 percent of wedding planning is done on mobile, so this still rings true for weddings.

Now, while I’m not necessarily suggesting that all of your posts are checked on mobile before you send them out, it’s good to be mindful of length and the type of content in each post. A significant advantage here is that with the wedding industry hosting a lot of visual work, it’ll become much easier to grab attention on mobile with this material, increasing shareability on social media. Mobile is crucial for your blog and something you need to be mindful of as you’re planning out your content.

Keep Your Content Digestible

Finally, it’s crucial to keep a balance with how digestible the materials you’re producing are. Believe it or not, according to Impact Bound, with 43 percent of people admitting to skimming blog posts, sometimes supplemental items are necessary to keep your readers attention. And while this might sound like a lot of legwork, with the right tools, it will be much more seamless than you might imagine.

If you haven’t already, it’d be wise to collect a few sources for photos and infographics. Additionally, learning some basic PhotoShop and InDesign can go a long way, especially in producing original material that can be shared on social. Your basic goal here should have a variation of posts, maximizing your overall output into what can give you the best return. Most importantly though, have fun with this stuff; that’s what having your own blog is all about!
