A new deal will let ‘Facebook Watch’ users view NFL highlights immediately after the game

Facebook watch users worldwide are able to view videos from the games themselves, recaps from all 256 regular season games, plus playoffs and the Super Bowl

Facebook has signed with NFL a two-year deal to distribute game highlights and in-depth recaps to its two billion users worldwide. The deal kicks in immediately. The NFL undisclosed amount for rights.

According to NFL, the videos from the games themselves, and in-depth recaps will be from all 256 regular season games, plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl, and will be made available to the social network users all over the world.

The NFL will also be creating a couple of highlight shows specifically for Facebook’s new platform ‘Watch’ which being a U.S.-only feature. American will be able to watch every week “NFL Turning Point,” “NFL Game Recaps” and “Sound FX”.

NFL said that International users will be able to view the same programming on the ‘Show’ pages on Facebook, and can view the highlights by following the NFL or any of its 32 Clubs on Facebook.

Hans Schroeder, Chief Operating Officer of NFL Media, said in a statement. “We have millions of fans on Facebook, and they continue to demonstrate an incredible appetite for NFL content. We’re excited to bring a compelling set of highlights and shows from the NFL and our Clubs to our fans on Facebook.”

Facebook will try to earn money by selling ads that will run during the video clips. THe social media will try drawing in new users to Facebook’s Watch video platform.

But, Facebook isn’t the only platform to see NFL highlights. the league has been insistent about cut up the rights and clips across multiple platforms.

Twitter did a new deal with the NFL. The league will run a 30-minute live streamed show called #NFLBlitz and other live sports programmings, like breaking news, team power rankings, pre-game updates, fantasy projections, key storylines, and more.

Sport is a central category in ‘Watch’. It was launched with popular programs including Golden State Warriors’, NBA’s “WNBA All-Access,” “Championship Rewind, MLB games, ”Univision Deportes’ “Liga MX”, and a live show called “12:25 Live.”
