In an interview Friday Steve Bannon told The Weekly Standard that “The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over.”

Banon spoke hours after it was announced that Trump’s chief strategist fired. In the interview, Bannon said that he expects President Trump’s advisers move him in a more conventional direction.

“His natural tendency — and I think you saw it this week on Charlottesville — his actual default position is the position of his base, the position that got him elected.”

Bannon, who has reportedly already rejoined Breitbart News as executive chairman, claimed that his departure was voluntary and he’d planned it to coincide with the one-year we planet to spend in the White House. Bannon may have left voluntary, but it was clear from the time that Chief of Staff John Kelly take over his role that Bannon’s remaining time in the West Wing was going to be short.
“I am definitely going to crush the opposition. There’s no doubt,” he added.
