More than 700 incidents of hate based crimes have been reported since election day. The Hungarian-American Holocaust survivor told the New York Time that he was “deeply troubled” by the reports of hate crimes since the election, including many Nazi swastikas and slogans which have been painted on cars and buildings. A recent spate of hate related incidents have also occurred in US schools.

The philanthropist is known as a long-term donor to liberal and Democratic causes.

Soros will donate $5 million in grants of up to $150, 000 each to community-based and civil-society organizations through his Open Society Foundation.

“We must do something to push back against what’s happening here, ” Soros told the newspaper.

“Certainly [feelings of hatred] got inflamed as a result of the campaign, ” he admitted. “It really broke out afterwards.” George Soros said that his donation was not intended to be a political statement about the election of Donald Trump, however.
