The estate of late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, is hopelessly insolvent, a British judge has said, according to Reuters. In January 2015,  about 18 months ago,  another judge declared the estate insolvent.

“About £34 million remains, subject to the payment of bankruptcy and administration expenses, including legal costs, out of this sum, ” Justice Arnold was quoted as saying in the ruling. “This sum is currently the estate’s only substantial asset. Since the estate has substantial creditors running into hundreds of millions of pounds, it is hopelessly insolvent, ” the Press Association reported.

Justice Arnold had dismissed some “proprietary claims” made by Berezovsky’s former partner Elena Gorbunova. The couple had two children and been in a relationship between 1991 and 2012.

Boris Berezovsky was found dead in March 2013 in a locked bathroom at his home in Ascot, Berkshire. He was 67.

Berezovsky, a former mathematician,  ranked as a billionaire by Forbes. He made his fortune metals, oil ,  cars  and airlines. He was known for helping  Vladimir Putin’s rise to the Kremlin’s top job – but also for becoming his sworn enemy

Berezovsky clashed with Putin soon after his election in 2000 and left to Britain.

In 2012 he lost a legal battle with former partner, Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich, over shares in Russia’s fourth biggest oil company. Berezovsky made a series of claims relating to business dealings and asked for more than £3 billion damages. The loss left Mr Berezovsky facing legal bills totalling tens of millions of pounds.
