Mark Zuckerberg announces €200 million Facebook facility for Ireland

Facebook is building a new €200m data centre in Clonee, Co Meath.

The construction of the building is to begin in the coming months and will set create 2000 jobs, while 150 staff positions are expected to be created on a long-term basis when it centre opens by 2018 at the latest.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg says it will be one of the most advanced and energy efficient data centres in the world.

He also said they are glad to be investing further in Ireland and the community in Clonee.

In a Facebook post, Mr Zuckerberg said: “One interesting engineering detail is that we’re cooling the facility with outdoor air, but because this is near the Irish Sea we’ll be using an indirect air cooling process to filter the salt from the air.”
