Brett Ratner Says Future of Movies Is in China

Brett Ratner

Brett Ratner, film director and investor in films through his company RatPac, says China will help determine the future of films. The director of “Hercules” invests in as many as 100 films, has a partnership with Warner Brothers in which Ratpac has a stake in the studio’s releases. Ratners said during his visit to China, he was amazed that 12 to 14 movie theaters are being built daily to add the the 14, 000 existing cinemas.

“I think China is going to be the saving grace for this business, ” Ratner said on a panel at the American Film Market, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a time coming when a movie is going to be made here and it will cost a few hundred million dollars and I don’t think the studio will even care if it gets released here. They will care, but they can make hundreds of millions more in China.”
