The number of people with Ebola in people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone is 9, 936, the World Health Organization announced Wednesday.

Those three countries at the epicenter of the world’s Ebola epidemic.

The number of dead has reached 4, 877.

The Red Cross said it would take at least four months to contain the epidemic, if all necessary steps are taken.

“It will be possible, as it was possible in the past, to contain this epidemic within four to six months, ” Elhadj As Sy, chief of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), told Al Jazeera.

Experts outside those organizations have warned that the rate of infections will reach 10, 000 a week by December.

The figures were released as the WHO in Geneva on Wednesday held its third round of emergency talks on Ebola.

The talks are expected to last two days.
