Indian defense company Bharat Forge is teaming up with Israeli company, Elbit systems, to produce cannons, ammunition and other military equipment. India in the 1980s and 90s was rocked by a scandal involving the Swedish defense company Bofors and illegal kickbacks as the result of the arms deal. Bharat Forge is looking to Israel for a new partner in defense equipment production. The first project executed by the joint venture will be the modernization of Howitzer systems.

Baba Kalyani, CEO of Bharat Forge, said Elbit’s cannons are of superior quality to those provided by Bofors, and can fire 52 calibre rounds instead of just 36.
