Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay who has faced drug charges for his arrest in March, is going to have a change of plea hearing on September 2. Indystar.com reported a statement by Andre Miksha, a spokesman for the Hamilton County Prosecutor; “I can confirm that Mr. Irsay’s case has been set for a change of plea hearing on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:oo am in Hamilton Superior Court IV. I cannot provide any details of –or even verify the existence of–an agreement unless or until one would be tendered to the court at such a hearing.”
Irsay was arrested on March 16th with $29, 000 and bottles of prescription drugs in his car. Irsay denied being drunk, but officers suspected an overdose of prescription drugs, and Irsay was so confused he apparently couldn’t recite the alphabet. Police charged Irsay with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, and if convicted, Irsay could face from 6 months to up to three years in prison. Irsay entered a rehab facility shortly after his arrest and says he has had an issue with addiction to pain medication in the past, but the issue was resolved. Apparently, Irsay underwent a relapse, received treatment for it, and any incarceration would surely compromise his role as the coach of the Colts, a role he has filled since 1997.
